Elections

Serving on the MVBA Board or as an Officer is a meaningful way to help shape the future of our neighborhood. Consider getting more involved and giving back to the community by running for an open position.

Election Schedule

MVBA elections are held once a year, at the Annual Membership Meeting in November. Terms for elected positions begin on January 1 of the following year. Elections may include:

  • Officers (in odd-numbered years)

  • Board Members-at-Large (every year, as terms expire)

To vote or run in an election, you must be a member in good standing in a voting membership category by the close of the September membership meeting.

How Nominations Work

Each year, the President appoints a Nominating Committee (at least five MVBA members). The committee interviews prospective candidates, prepares a recommended slate, and publishes candidate bios in the MVBA newsletter before the September meeting.

Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the September membership meeting. Once nominations close in September, the final ballot is set for November. Voting at the Annual Meeting is conducted by secret ballot.

Serving as an Elected Member

Serving in an elected role is a real commitment, but also a rewarding way to contribute to Mount Vernon–Belvedere. All elected Board Members and Officers commit to:

  • Attending monthly Board meetings (held at least 10 months per year; no meetings in August or December)

  • Acting in the best interest of the neighborhood as a whole

  • Reviewing materials, budgets, and proposals outside of meetings

  • Following MVBA’s conflict-of-interest policy

  • Working collaboratively with other Board members, committees, and community stakeholders

Board service is voluntary and unpaid, though reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.
